Why is Val d’Isère the place to invest at the moment?

It is arguably the most user-friendly European resort, with a huge amount of skiing (top snow), a combo that is hard to beat. With 60% of its slopes over 2000m, Val d’Isere offers guaranteed snow cover right throughout the winter season. Val d’Isere is at the base of the slopes and much of the accommodation is ski-in-ski-out or a short stroll. Technically, it is two connected independent mountains, Val d’Isere and Tignes (Espace Killy ski area), yet there is only one ski pass and as a skier, you never notice any difference.

200M€ investment in Val d’Isere infrastructure

The town itself recently started a massive 5-year, 200-million-euro upgrade to expand the village and more seamlessly connect its pedestrianised core with the slopes. A main avenue in the Val project will be transformed into a ski-in-ski-out snow front!
This is the largest construction project in the French Alps in the past 20 years and will basically add a slopeside neighbourhood with new hotels, apartments, and 100 more private chalets. Up in the mountain, will see yet another vital new lift, a 10-person, 10-million-euro gondola serving both the slopes and the highest altitude hotel in France. The new Vail Lodge Val d’Isere apartments will be part of this new air of luxury blowing on the most exclusive of French ski resorts.

Comparing Val d’Isere to major North American ski resorts

If we compare Val d’Isère to the major North American resorts, how does it compare?
The cherry on the cake is that Val d’Isere has long been the favourite spot in the Alps for British skiers. Therefore it is geared up to the English-speaker, from waiters to ski instructors to rental shops, with no language barrier.
Also good to know, Val d’Isere is a partner in Vail Resort’s season pass, the Epic Pass. Therefore if you have one of these passes, you can ski Val d’Isere for free as well as another selection of US ski resorts.
dIt’s very much like going to Whistler/Blackcomb, where the gondolas from the two mountains come down to the same central place. Except that while Whistler/Blackcomb is by far the largest ski resort in North America, Val d’Isere Tignes is five times bigger, just gigantic.
While it’s “only” the third-largest ski area in France, it’s important to remember that France has the three largest ski s in the world. Most famous Colorado resorts would indeed look tiny if compared to Val d’Isere’s map.

folie douce val

Day-clubbing on the slopes with the Folie Douce

oVal d’Isere is also home to the most famous party venue, the snowy version of a St Tropez hotspot, called La Folie Douce. This world-famous restaurant/bar/club now has several locations across the French Alps. The Folie Douce all started more than 20 years ago in this resort.
Despite being located high up on the slopes and only open from 12-6 each day, they routinely serve 4-6,000 customers daily. The main event outside is crazy with a cabaret show, live DJ and guests dancing on the tables. It is also a quality restaurant that produces its own cheese and butchers its own meat and has quiet fine dining inside. There is also a cigar lounge with views of the Mont-Blanc, Europe’s highest peak, and an upstairs VIP champagne lounge.
It’s a concept that’s hard to beat, and if you go to Val d’Isere, you must see it. There is a new Folie Douce coming to Les Arcs 1800.
