Ski Areas in French Alps with FindHomeAbroad

Situated in the south-eastern part of France, the French Alps is famous as the most popular ski destination in the world. The French Alps host the highest peak in Europe (the Mont Blanc and its 4,810m peak), numerous ski resorts from the traditional mountain villages (Chatel, Megeve, Samoens, etc) to the purpose-built ski-in ski-out resorts (Les Arcs, Tignes, Flaine, etc). The best destinations are mostly in the northern Alps and this is where we, at Findhomeabroad, select 95% of our new-build ski property developments. The regions in northern Alps are the Haute-Savoie (where we tend to have more of our new ski properties whether chalets or apartments, also it is closer to Geneva airport which is convenient), Savoie and Isere.

The northern Alps offer all the mountain scope one could wish for, from the international renowned ski resort to the charming Alpine village, extensively-linked ski domains, cross-country skiing as well as mountain biking and trekking not to forget the summer activities which gain more and more importance for savvy ski property investors.

It is in Haute-Savoie where the first big ski resorts were created: Chamonix, Megève and Saint-Gervais in the Arve Valley. Modern purpose-built resorts also like Flaine and Avoriaz offer great ski areas. Also important are the Aravis mountain peaks with resorts like La Clusaz or Le Grand-Bornand.
Haute-Savoie is known as the more traditional of the Savoie regions with many old mountain farms still operating and also the proximity to Geneva airport makes it an international favourite.
Some of the most favourite ski resorts to name a few are Chamonix, les Gets, Chatel, La Chapelle, Morzine, Thollon-les-Memises, Les Carroz, Saint-Gervais, etc. It is also popular in summer which is important to prospective buyers today.

Savoie offers some of the most high altitude ski areas in the world, the most famous being Espace Killy (Val d’Isere & Tignes) and the renowned 3 Valleys (Val Thorens, Courchevel, Meribel). Also other ski areas like Paradiski with Les Arcs and La Plagne offer high altitude skiing with very modern infrastructures and Savoie therefore is a paradise for hard core skiers.

Isère hosts two of the greatest ski resorts in the French Alps: Les 2 Alpes & Alpe d’Huez in the Grenoble area. With confirmation that both these ski areas will be linked soon will certainly make this newly-created ski area one of the best in the world. It is also very popular in summer with many activities on offer including the famous Tour de France. Chamrousse is also an attractive ski resort, smaller but with lower prices of course.

With 650kms Les Portes du Soleil is the biggest ski area in the world and includes some of the best know ski resorts within close range of Geneva: Avoriaz, Chatel, Morzine, Les Gets, Montriond, La Chapelle d’Abondance, Saint-Jean d’Aulps, …

From 1,200 to 3,250 meters above sea level, Paradiski is a varied ski area with 425 km of slopes, aimed at skiers of all skill levels, from novices to experienced skiers.
The second biggest ski area in the world, it is one of the very large interconnected areas, linking the massifs of the ski resorts of Les Arcs / Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne, thanks to the Vanoise Express (the largest cable car in the world). With 310 km of tracks and 6 connected stations, the Sybelles ski area is the first ski area in Maurienne and the 4th ski area in France.
